Abstract

Abstract The product is a garment made of virtually any woven fabric (i.e., acrylic, polyester, wool, angora, etc.) and is completely homogenous in construction, includes a main body portion of the same general shape as that of the uppor torso in that the bottom is narrower than the top. At the top of the garment are two directly opposed straight appendages that emanate from the main body at ninety degree angles. These appendages wrap around the neck and fasten to one another at the ends. At the top of the appendages and centered with the main body is an additional pportion of fabric, semi-elliptical in shape.

Description

Disclosure / ~oecific2tion The Generz! Cnaracter, Grigin The inventor, having lived in very cold climates, realized the indispensable need for total protection of the areas of the vocal apparatus and upper bodv area, encompassing the nose, mouth, chin, throat, nec~ and chest areas. Further, the inventor recognized that other professionals such as speakers (or others in such communication capacities), sportsmen, military - even the media - require protection from cold, drafts or any changes in temperature to these areas.
The inventor decided that conventional rectangular scarves and other existing protective garments, when wrapped around the nec~, throat and chest provided protection only to those areas alone. The nose, mouth and chin areas were still le~t unprotected. Onlv through a rewrapping of the scarf would anv protection Qf the nose, mouth and chin areas oe achieved. This~ nowever, occurs at the direct expense OI the ~reviousl~ covered area~ in that the~ will conseauentl~ be left unprotecte~.

The Natl~re in General Terrns 2 0 6 6 8 ~ 8 The inventor conclucled that what was needecl was indeed one product whose function was -the cornplete protection of all of the ahove-mentioned areas.
The concept is to provide a very practi.cal and aesthetic protection of all of those important areas in one product. Men, women and children Of all ages need such protection when subjected to cold temperatures and drafty conditions. This garment accomplishes this by simultaneously and attractively covering the target areas. It can be manufacture~ to accommodate any standard or custom size. The simp]icity of design allows for standardized manufacturiny processes which in turn minirnize produ~tion costs and maximize retail value.

Previous Practices The inventor decicled that convenkional rectangular scarves and other exis-ting protective garments, when wrapped around the nec~, throat and chest provided protection only to those areas alone. The nose, mouth and c}lin areas were stlll those areas alone. The nose, mouth and chin areas were still left unprotected. Only through a rewrapping of the scarf would any protectinn of the nose, mouth and chin areas be achie.ved. This, however, occurs at the direct expense of the previously covered areas in that they will consequently be left unprotected. The semi-eliptical, or portion of the garment which covers the nose, chin, lips and cheeks portion of this garment can be pulled up as desired to cover the nose, mouth and chin, when the appendages are wrapped around and fastened at the bac~ of the nec~, while t.he body of the garment serves to protec-t the neck and chest.

Description of Drawings and ~etailed ~esciptian of Invention Figure 1 is a front elevation view of the inven-tion showing the appendages fully extended.
Figure 2 is a pro~ile of the invention in use.
Figure 3 is a frontal view of the invention in use.
As shown in Fi~ure 1, the bottom of the main body portion of the invention is narrQwer than the top. This differential is achieved by flaring the fahric upward ancl then outward, follQwing curving lines from the bottom to the top. At the top are two clirectly opposed straight appendages (lQ) which emanate from the main body (20) at 90 degree angles. These appendages are wrapped around the nec~ and fastened to one another at the ends, via any type of releasable fasteners, i.e., Velcro patches (30), (40), or other suitable connectors, such as buttons, zippers, snaps, etc. At the top of appendages (10) and centered with main body (20) is ~ muffler element (50), comprising an addi.tional portion of fabric, semi-elliptical in shape. This main body ~20) is configured to protect the chest area and appendages (10) are configured to wrap around the nec~, thereby protecting the nec~ and throat while muffler element (50) protects the nose, mouth and chin.
Figures 2 and 3 illustrate how the invention is to be used, with velcro fasteners (30~, (4), carried on appendages (10), astened behind the user's nec~. The muffler element (50) is shown covering the nose, mouth and chin.
It should be appreciated that the above description of the pre~erred embodiment does not limit the scope of the present invention in any way, and that various changes and modifications may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the present invention.
