Abstract
The present invention relates to the friendly recycling of aluminum alloys which are variants of AA 3000 and AA 5000 series alloys containing larger than usual amounts of silicon and iron. Alloys contain in weight percentages more than 0.6 - 2.0% silicon, 0.9 - 2.4% iron, where the ratio of iron to silicon is in the range of 1, 2 - 1.8: 1. Other alloying components may include 0 - 0.4% copper, 0 - 1.5% manganese, 0 - 5.0% magnesium, 0 - 0.5% zinc, 0 - 3.5% chromium , 0 - 0.1% titanium and the balance being aluminum and incidental impurities.
