Abstract
The present invention relates to a method of acidifying an underground formation involving the use of a composition containing a viscoelastic amidoamine oxide surfactant solution and an HF containing acidifying solution. The composition typically contains from about 0.1 to about 8% by weight of surfactant solution and from about 92 to about 99.9% by weight of HF-containing acidifying solution. The composition is pumped into the underground formation. Once the acid reacts, the composition viscosifies and makes a self-diverting agent created in situ. When acid is subsequently spent, the low fluid viscosity finally returns to a low viscosity state, allowing for easy cleaning. The process allows selective acidification of less permeable zones of formation and more uniform stimulation of hydrocarbon carrier formation.
