Abstract

"HIDRATO DE DIóXIDO DE TITâNIO PURO E PROCESSO PARA A PRODUçãO DO MESMO". AND PROCESS FOR THE PRODUCTION OF THE SAME". Titanium dioxide hydrate containing less than 250 ppm of sulfate ions and less than 50 ppm of ammonium or alkali metal ions, calculated on the basis of TiO ~ 2 ~, is obtained by producing an aqueous suspension with hydrate of titanium dioxide containing sulfate, having from 2 to 18% by weight, preferably from 5 to 15% by weight of solids, calculated as TiO ~ 2 ~, the sulfate content of the suspension being determined in the form of H ~ 2 ~ SO ~ 4 ~. 95 to 100.1 mol% of the stoichiometric amount of ammonia or alkali metal hydroxide required to neutralize the calculated amount of H ~ 2 ~ S0 ~ 4 ~ are added with stirring, the suspension being filtered after a stirring period of 5 to 60 minutes, preferably 10 to 30 minutes, and washed with water with low salt content, preferably deionized, followed by a diffusion wash with deionized water carried out at a pressure of 300 to 500 kPa.
