<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

"Process for cleaning, buffing and polishing fragile materials such as stone and paint"
The invention relates to a method for cleaning, buffing and polishing fragile materials such as stone and paint.
There is already known a cleaning process using silica particles which are sprayed with an air or water jet in order, in particular, to clean the facades of historic buildings and monuments. Such a process is suitable for hard stones while for soft materials it should be avoided, due to the resulting surface disintegration.
This process cannot, for example, be used for the cleaning of soft stone facades, for cleaning marble stones and also for all materials that have been polished.
The present invention aims in particular to remedy these drawbacks and to this end relates to a process for cleaning, buffing and polishing fragile materials such as stone and paints, characterized in that an air jet is projected onto this material containing particles of plant origin.
According to the process of the invention, it is therefore planned to use particles of plant origin, which can be in the form of powders or granules, obtained by grinding or
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
crushing, and this depending on the material to be cleaned and its polished or unpolished surface condition.
A product which is particularly suitable for this type of delicate cleaning consists of particles of crushed corn stalk then reduced to powder.
This process can be implemented for cleaning different stones, from granite to marble stone, metal and especially aluminum, paints, glass, etc.
The primary advantage of this process is that it allows cleaning and buffing without attacking the base material. However, this process also has other important advantages and, in particular, the spraying of the plant particles can be carried out by an air jet, that is to say dry. Thus, this process can be used inside apartments to clean paintings, glass panes, etc. by then very easily recovering the particles by suction and this because of their low density.
This process could thus be used for cleaning marble stones, granite and others which are polished, in order to clean them by restoring their original polish.
Also, this process can be implemented for cleaning woodwork, furniture, floors, by adapting the nature of the plant product and its particle size to the nature of the material to be cleaned.
In general, this method makes it possible to clean the fragile materials which, until now, had to be cleaned by using a liquid cleaning product, acid or basic according to the case and according to the nature of the material to be cleaned, these cleaning products producing in any case an attack of this material or of a neighboring material.
