Abstract
A heat exchanger (100) including one or more rotating coaxial drums (102, 134) with freely rotating helixes (166, 168) inside the drums to move material to be heated or cooled longitudinally through the drums, as well as to help clean the surface of the drums, together with carriers (180) to assist in heat transfer and cleaning of the drum surfaces, and a scoop (172) to recycle the carriers through an inner coaxial drum (134). The outer drum (102) has a sealed inlet (124) and outlet (128) disposed so that the seals (112, 122) are not exposed to excessive temperatures. An arrangement is provided for disposing of vapors produced during use of the drums so that they will not leak to the atmosphere.
