DESCRIPTION
0 z This invention is for the Chopping of sugarcane or similar fibre cropping situations into short billet lengths to achieve more mass per cubic meter. This is desired when the Whole crop is to be processed for Cogeneration, Animal Fodder or Fiber as the oproduct does not have a mass that is economical to transport or process. A length of 00 140mm is the shortest average billet length that can be produced with an industry o standard method of clamping the cutting blade to the chopper drums.
The innovation is in the clamping of the blade. The chopper drum has blade pockets(1) that are axial to the chopper drum. The blades(2) are inserted with one blade either side of the pocket. The clamping system is a wedge shaped bar(3) which holds the blades against either side of the pocket and is tightened by bolts(4) which are radial to the drum.
An industry desired billet length of 75mm long(5) is the length achievable on a 12 Blade per drum Chopper. This wedge type blade retainer(3) is not limited to the amount of pockets that can be machined on the drum. If a longer billet is desired some blades can be removed and replaced with spacers. 12, 6, 4, 3, and 2 blades per drum is achievable.
This invention will make a more sustainable and cost effective way of increasing the mass for transportation of the product. It is easily adaptable to the current Sugar cane Harvesters with minimal modification required.
