Abstract
A method of preparing a bitumen/polymer composition resistant to petroleum solvents involves contacting at 100-230 degreesC for 10 minutes or more a bitumen and, with respect to it, 0.3-20 wt.% of a crosslinkable elastomer, 0.05-15 wt.% of a functionalized olefin polymer of specified composition and a sufficient of a coupling agent to produce free sulfur representing 0.1-20 wt.% of the weight of the crosslinkable elastomer. The olefin polymer comprises: x wt.% of units deriving from ethylene or propylene, y wt.% of units deriving from one or more monomers of Formula: CH2=CR1R2 R1 = H, -CH3, -C2H5; R2 = -COOR5, -OR5, -OOCR6; R5 = 1-10C alkyl; R6 = H, 1-3C alkyl, and z wt.% of unit deriving from one or more monomers of Formula: R3-CH=CR1R4 R3 = H, -COOH, COOR5; R3 = -COOH, -OH, -COO-CH2-CH(O)CH3, -O- CH2-CH(O)CH2 x is greater than y+10 and greater than z, which is 0-20. An INDEPENDENT CL AIM is included for a bitumen/polymer composition produced by the above method
