Description
AUSTRALIA
Patents Act 1990 COMPLETE SPECIFICATION INNOVATION PATENT METAL SANDWICH PANEL The following statement is a full description of this invention, including the best method of performing it known to me.
METAL SANDWICH PANEL Metal Sandwich Panel is a very strong panel of lightweight construction with a thin metal corrugation between two cover sheets. This ingeniously simple structure makes it a very light and extremely rigid sandwich panel that provides significant savings in weight particularly when used in large formats.
There is almost an unlimited use in the building sector alone (example ceiling systems, radiant cooling heating systems, wall enclosures, facades, machine building, transportation and interior construction).
The innovative sandwich panel, hot melt gluing system which is used to bond the corrugation to cover sheets, provides the benefits of conventional gluing systems while not having their disadvantages. Thus, for instance there is no creeping of the compound nor the classical danger of brittle failure which appears with brittle hard compounds.
What is more, Techmomelt Q 8718 Hotmelt warrants a high cynical and physical consistency. The temperature stability of the sandwich panel comes to approximately -400 to 100 0 c.
Thanks to the optimised geometry of the corrugation, the adhesive can snuggle perfectly to the sheets at the connection places. Therewith the sandwich panel reaches a particularly high static strength and an extremely good dynamic stability.
The sandwich panel can be made in aluminium or steel with various cover sheet thickness (0.2mm to 1.0mm) and surface coatings. (Conversion treated, primed, colour coated, anodised, galvanised and even timber venires) Thanks to the continuous production process, almost any length can be produced with the standard width of aluminium panels being 1500mm and that of cultured steel panels 1200mm. The overall thickness of the sandwich panel (hp) is determined by the height of the corrugation (hw) and the thickness of the cover sheets (tl t2) (See drawing Figure 1).
By varying the cover sheets and bonding together several sandwich panels into double and triple panels a broad range of characteristics can be obtained.
(See drawing Figure II) Being a purely metal sandwich panel makes this product a precious material even after its service life for recycling.
Claims (4)
1. This metal sandwich panel (Figure 1) production process during which one (I) respectively two thin metal sheets are bonded to one or either side of a corrugated thin metal sheets with a hot melt glue
2. The panels are made out of galvanised steel in 1200mm width and out of aluminium in 1500mm standard width. Special lengths can be produced, thanks to the continuos production of coils.
3. According to claims 1 and 2, characterised in their unique structure makes it a very light but nether the less extremely rigid sandwich panel which allows for considerable weight savings particularly when used in big formats.
4. The sandwich panel according to claims 1 or 2 or 3 and in addition to has also got convincing acoustic and dynamic properties. Since the panels can be painted, coated with films or laminates as well as carpets and other materials all kinds of optical claims can be satisfied. The sandwich panel together with claims 1 to 4 can be produced also to suit the required strengths. The overall thickness of the composite panel (hp) is determined by the height of the corrugation (hw) and the thickness of the cover sheets (tIl and t2). By varying and bonding together several panels into double and triple panels (Figure 2) a broad range of characteristics can be obtained. See product family single-flex single panel and double panel
