An on-board computing equipment of limited capacity has a host microprocessor (110) and operating system (121) which are connected to intermediate middleware (130) through an interface (132). The middleware includes a virtual microprocessor (138) which receives instructions from an application (200) in a language independent of the host, low level equipment (131), transcription units (136,137) and an application interface (135)
