Abstract

An octene composition is disclosed wherein octene oligomers with tetra-substituted double bonds represent between 10 and 15 mole % of the total amount of octene oligomers; further disclosed are the use of such octene composition in the preparation of a higher alcohol or an ester of a polycarboxylic acid, and the process for the preparation of a higher alcohol and a polycarboxylic ester from such octene composition.
