Abstract
The invention relates to a method and a device for thermally bonding particles that are present in bulk and that consist of an expanded, pre-expanded and/or expandable polymer, to form moulded parts by means of high-frequency electromagnetic radiation, in particular microwave radiation, using at least one liquid medium that absorbs electromagnetic radiation. According to the invention, the volume of the void spaces in the bulk material is almost entirely filled with the liquid medium and the particles are welded together by the mutual contact of their surfaces at least at surface level, to form the moulded part and are subsequently cooled. Moulded parts with a homogeneous and intimate bond are thus obtained.
