Patents Act 1990 COMPLETE SPECIFICATION INNOVATION PATENT HINGED TOP CARAVAN CAMPERVAN The following statement is a full description of this invention, including the best method of performing it known to me: IP Austral;E Documents recivpdi orn Batch No: HINGED TOP CARAVAN CAMPERVAN This invention relates to improvements in the design of caravans/campervans.
Many caravan/campervan designs attempt to utilise a small volume while in travelling mode and use some "pop up", "wind up", "fold out", or "slide out" system to increase the internal space when being used as a living area. Usually the extra wall area (in the case of "pop up" vans) or the extra wall and roof area of some campervans is provided by canvas or some similar material that folds away when in the travelling mode.
Some structures with hinge arrangements have panels or sections that fold into place or are inserted in place to form the wall area for an enlarged living space.
These structures involve the relative movement of more than one part to create the enlarged, enclosed living space.
This invention can create a change in volume of an enclosed living space with the movement of only one part.
With this innovation the van is made in two sections joined together by a hinge mechanism at the top front edge of the lower section and the bottom front edge of the upper section. This hinge mechanism allows the walls and back of the upper section to slide past the outside of the lower section thus enabling the height of the van to be reduced for travelling. The raising of the upper section is assisted by the use of air rams or springs or some other mechanical device.
The invention may be in the form of a trailed caravan on wheels or in the form of a campervan that is positioned on the back of a motor vehicle to form a type of motorhome.
The invention may be better understood with reference to the illustrations of embodiments of the invention which show the upper shell marked A joined to a lower section marked B by a hinge at C.
Claims (2)
1. A caravan campervan constructed in such a way that an upper section made from rigid material and comprising the roof and part of the sides and back, can be rotated up or down past the outside of the lower section in such a way as to change the volume of an enclosed living space using a hinge mechanism on only one axis located at the top front edge of the lower section.
