Abstract

1. A masonry lining for furnaces, more specially shaft furnaces, such as blast furnaces or the like, with spaced cooling boxes running inwards from the furnace shell, the boxes being bedded in a first layer made of a material of high thermal conductivity and in a second layer of a material lining off this layer from the inside of the furnace, said second layer being made of a material with a high resistance to abrasion, there furthermore being, if desired, a layer of relatively low thermal conductivity between the furnace shell and the first layer with a high thermal conductivity, characterized in that the thickness of the second layer made of a material with a high resistance to abrasion is decreased towards the middle of the spacing between the cooling boxes with a parallel increase in the thickness of the masonry to the back thereof.
