Abstract

The device comprises a vertical conduit (2, 3) arranged between the exit (1) of the casting vessel and the entry of the mould, and a distribution member (tundish) (4) arranged substantially at the entry of the vertical conduit (2, 3). It comprises means (11, 17, 18) for vertically moving the distribution member (tundish) (4) between a high position in which this distribution member (tundish) (4) closes the exit of the casting vessel and a low position in which this distribution member (tundish) (4) opens a maximum passage section for the metal. The distribution member (tundish) may be rigidly fixed to the vertical conduit (2); provision is then made for means for vertically moving, between the said high position and the said low position, an assembly comprising the vertical conduit (2, 3), any lower extension (5) of the latter, and the distribution member (tundish) (4). The abovementioned means of movement are, for example, rams (17, 18) interacting with resilient supports (11). <IMAGE>
