Abstract

The operating apparatus (8) for an adjustable bed is supported by a carrier arm (9) attached to the backrest (5) so that it can be used by the patient for controlling the operating drives used to adjust the inclination of the mattress frame at either end and/or for operation of a communication device or a television receiver etc. The operating device may be secured to the end of the carrier arm via a ball- and-socket linkage allowing its position to be adjusted to suit the user, the carrier arm formed by a rigid tube with a number of flexible sections (10,12), providing further position adjustment.
