Abstract
El sistema divulgado en la presente provee una estimulación selectiva de fibras pequeñas Ad y C por medio de un generador de RF que genera corrientes de RF aplicadas a la piel utilizando sondas de RF de área pequeña. El sistema también registra respuestas corporales a dicha estimulación, por ejemplo (pero sin limitarse a), potenciales del encefalograma evocados por radiofrecuencia, tiempos de reacción de un botón de presión y puntuaciones de dolor subjetivo a partir de una escala analógica visual. Estas respuestas son analizadas por un algoritmo que integra y procesa la información disponible y provee una evaluación de la función de las fibras nerviosas pequeñas. El dispositivo y los métodos pueden proveer una estimulación selectiva de las fibras nerviosas pequeñas, seguida de una cuantificación objetiva o subjetiva de respuestas corporales a dicha estimulación. El dispositivo y los métodos pueden ser utilizados para varios fines, incluyendo la determinación de umbrales de detección sensorial y umbrales de dolor a estímulos térmicos, caracterización objetiva de condiciones patológicas que involucran caminos nociceptivos, asistencia en la diagnosis y prognosis de la neuropatía de fibras pequeñas, y evaluación de la eficacia y relaciones dosis-respuesta de drogas para el control del dolor, entre otros.
