Abstract
La presente propone la generación de plantas tolerantes a la sequía. La presente permite la manipulación de una característica fenotípica denominada permanencia verde para facilitar la adaptación a la sequía en plantas por métodos recombinantes, mutagénicos y/o de fitomejoramiento y selección. En la presente también se proponen sistemas prácticos de manipulación de plantas para aumentar el rendimiento de un cultivo y la eficacia de la cosecha en ambientes con limitaciones hídricas. Reivindicación 1: Un método para generar una planta modificada genéticamente que utiliza agua con mayor eficacia que una planta modificada no genéticamente de la misma especie, dicho método comprende modular el nivel de expresión de un locus o loci StgX existente o introducido en todos los tejidos, o en tejidos seleccionados, de una planta, el StgX corresponde a la ubicación en un cromosoma en una planta de sorgo o su equivalente en otra planta, el StgX codifica un producto, cuyo nivel está asociado o facilita un fenotipo de la permanencia verde, fenotipo que incluye posponer el uso del agua hasta el período de la postantesis o aumentar la accesibilidad al agua durante el crecimiento del cultivo o aumentar la eficacia de la transpiración, con lo que se consigue un aumento del índice de cosecha y del rendimiento en granos en condiciones de limitación hídrica, y donde StgX es identificado mediante un fino mapeo de la estructura.
