Abstract

Métodos para aumentar la digestibilidad y/o la proteína cruda de una planta modificando la biosíntesis de la lignina de la planta. Los métodos implican la manipulación del nivel de expresión de genes en la vía de biosíntesis de la lignina mediante la reducción directa de la expresión génica usando miARN o la regulación de factores de transcripción y plantas y células vegetales transgénicas que comprenden los constructos y casetas. También secuencias de nucleótidos reguladoras de la transcripción para usar en los casetes de expresión, y métodos para usar estas secuencias y casetes. Reivindicación 1: Un casete de expresión para regular en forma descendente la biosíntesis de la lignina en una planta, caracterizado porque comprende: (a) una secuencia de nucleótidos reguladora de la transcripción de un gen de cafeoil-CoA O-metiltransferasa (CCoAOMT), y (b) una secuencia de ácidos nucleicos que codifica el factor de transcripción del maíz MYB42 (ZmMYB42) ligado operativamente a dicha secuencia de nucleótidos reguladora de la transcripción.
