El método emplea una o más etapas de tratamiento en lecho fluidizado y el gas que sale de una o más de dichas etapas se somete a un tratamiento de reformación ya sea en presencia o ausencia de catalizador. El gas que sale de la etapa de reformación se mezcla con una corriente de sólidos, cuyo componente principal es el material del lecho y otro de cuyos componentes es el hollín, donde dicha corriente de sólidos ha sido conducida desde una o más de las etapas de tratamiento en lecho fluidizado, preferiblemente provenientes de aquella a la cual se alimenta el material de alimentación que contiene carbono. Corriente abajo de la etapa de mezcla, los sólidos se separan del gas y luego se reciclan o envían a una o más de las etapas de tratamiento en lecho fluidizado. El método permite transferir calor desde el gas reformado caliente a la(s) etapa(s) de gasificación de una manera eficiente y efectiva en lo referente a los costos.
