Abstract

Un proceso para producir ácido tereftálico y/o dimetil tereftalato que incluye poner en contacto una corriente de reaccion que contiene tolueno con unprimer catalizador bajo condiciones de desproporcionamiento de tolueno para producir una corriented e producto intermedia de para-xileno con cantidadesnegligibles de orto-xileno. El primer catalizador incluye un tamiz molecular cristalino que tiene un régimen de difusion de orto-xileno de por lo menos50 minutos. El primer catalizador puede sermodi ficado por selectivacion con un compuesto de silicio o un compuesto de carbono. La corriente del productointermedio, sin necesitar purificacion del para-xileno es oxidada para dar ácido tereftálico o dimetiltereftalato.
