Abstract
El recurso de puesta de cola en espera centralizado y selectivo obviala necesidad de poner en cola de espera en cada tablero terminal conectado al nucleo conmutador ATM.A switching device for a communications arrangement employing Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) technology, a queuing queuing resource provides centralized queuing for ATM cells intended for routing through the ATM switching core to various links desalida One method of operating said apparatus, the ATM switching core routes an ATM cell destined for any output link that requires queuing to the centralized queuing resource. ATM cells for outbound links that do not require queuing are not directed to the queuing resource. Queuing is performed with respect to the ATM cells in the queued de-centralized queue resource, and then the ATM cells are routed through the ATM switching core to an outbound link. The queuing resource has a link multiplexer (280) for each output link that it handles by the queuing resource. Each link multiplexer has both a first stage (304) and a second stage (302). The second stage comprises various queues (312 for storing ATM packets and a second stage multiplexer (314) for selecting the ATM packets stored in the various queues of the second stage for transmission to the first stage. The first stage comprises various queues (320) for storing ATM cells and a first stage multiplexer (330) for selecting the multiplexed ATM cells of the second stage for downloading from the queuing resource. The centralized queuing resource and Selectively obviates the need to queue on each terminal board connected to the ATM switching core.
