Abstract

It is known for carpenters to use levels to determine whether a part of a building is vertical or horizontal. Often a level needs to be supplemented by another device in order to obtain the sort of measurements or readings needed. It can be difficult or inconvenient having to grasp and manipulate these other devices while at the same time doing so with the level. It is an object of a preferred form of the invention to go some way towards addressing this problem. The invention is a device in the form of a level or an accessory (6) for a level. The device comprises a connective portion, e.g. an arm (7), and a pair of locking extensions (8, 9) e.g. buttons (20, 21). The buttons are located substantially in the arm (7) and each is subject to a biasing force from magnets (23, 24) that urges each button to its respective position outside the arm. The arrangement is such that the arm is sleeve-fit into a complimentary body of a second device (1) (e.g. a level) such that the pins extend into apertures (4, 5) in the level to interlock the two.
