Abstract

The disclosure relates to a pharmaceutically or veterinarily acceptable micellar solution formulation adapted to be injected into an animal, which formulation comprises; (a) an effective amount of a levamisole; (b) an effective amount of at least one macrocyclic lactone; (c) a pharmaceutically acceptable system of solvents and surfactants, wherein the system provides for acceptable storage stability for both the levamisole and the macrocyclic lactone and wherein the system provides for a viscosity which is suitable for injection; wherein the surfactants comprise at least polyoxyethylenated esters of sorbitan, a polyethylene glycol stearate, or both; and wherein the solvents comprise at least a water miscible organic solvent selected from glycerol formal (GF), propylene glycol, dimethyl acetamide (DMA), or combinations thereof, but not n-methyl pyrrolidone (NMP); wherein the levamisole is levamisole HCl; wherein the macrocyclic lactone is eprinomectin or ivermectin; wherein the formulation comprises water for injection; wherein the water for injection is provided in a quantity sufficient to bring the formulation to a suitable injection volume; and with the proviso that when the macrocyclic lactone is ivermectin, the levamisole HCl is present in an amount of at least about 15% (w/v).
