Abstract

A respiratory mask assembly for treatment of sleep disordered breathing is disclosed. The mask comprises a frame (see 12, figure 1) and a cushion (232; see also 14, figure 1) which at least in part defines a cavity. The cushion provides an aperture capable of receiving at least a patient’s nose. The cushion includes a face contacting portion (236), a non-face contacting portion (234), a gusset portion (238) connected between the face contacting portion and the non-face contacting portion, and an air delivery connection supported by the frame and adapted to connect an air delivery conduit to supply air to the cavity. The gusset portion includes an underside notch (249) and is configured so that the cushion is less stiff at a nasal bridge region. When the mask is compressed against a user’s face, the notch will cause the walls of the cushion to collapse at the weakest point, allowing further travel of the mask toward and away from the user’s face.
