Abstract
A method of screening mechanically manufactured fibre pulp mixture by mechanically defibering wood in the presence of water and then screening into at least two fractions containing fibres of different lengths. The method of screening is characterised by at least one screening phase where the fibre pulp mixture or part thereof is screened to separate short fibres. Screening is accomplished by using a gap screen comprising a convergent gap (13) and at least one wire (shown two wires 11 and 12) restricting the gap. The fibre pulp mixture (18) to be screened or part thereof is fed into the convergent gap and flows in the same direction as the wire towards an output port (22) at the convergent end of the gap, the short fibres and some of the water fed into the gap exit through the openings in the wire, the water and the remaining fibre pulp mixture exit through the output port of the gap.
