Abstract

The compounds of formula I, wherein R1 is H or C1-8 alkyl and n is 4 to 6, may be used in the preventative treatment of bipolar disorder and in the treatment of mania in its various forms (acute or chronic, single or recurring episodes). The preferred compound of formula I is gabapentin.
