Det er beskrevet en fremgangsmåte for fremstilling av en optisk aktiv alkohol med formel (I): hvor karbonatomet indikert med symbolet * kan ha konfigurasjonen (R) eller (S) og X representerer en ikke-substituert aminogruppe eller en mono- eller di- (d-C/Oalkylamino-gruppe eventuelt saltdannet fra tilsvarende ketoner ved katalytisk hydrogenering i nærvær av et rodiumkompleks.
