Abstract

En planar lysbølgekrets om innbefatter en skivebølgeleder med et antall forskjellige diffraksjonsfilterelementer optisk koplet til et antall inn- og utporter, tilveiebringer forskjellige optiske funksjonaliteter, innbefattende multipleksing, demultipleksing, diplekser og triplekser. I den grunnleggende utformingen er én eller flere utgangsporter optisk koplet til en inngangsport via gitterfiltre innbefattet i kappen til skivebølgelederen, og en ytterligere port er optisk koplet til inngangsporten via et diffraksjongitter etset inn i en endevegg av skivebølgelederen. En multiplekserplattform kan tilveiebringes ved optisk å kople fotodetektorer til to utgangsporter som mottar bølgelengdekanaler demultiplekset fra et inngangssignal ved hjelp av to kappeetsede filtre, og ved optisk å kople en laser til en annen inngangsport, som fører et utgående lasersignal ved endeveggen som har det etsede gitterfilteret, for kopling inn i den samme fiberen som utsendte det opprinnelige inngangssignalet.
