Abstract

En elektrolysecelle der det produseres metaller må tilsettes en nøyaktig mengde råstoff (som alumina), og som en virkning av reaksjonen som skjer i cellen, må man trekke ut produktet (som aluminium) og fjerne eventuelle avfallsprodukter (som HF og C02). For å avkjøle cellen hensiktsmessig og sikre oppsamling av alle avgassene fra cellen, som ikke er gasstett, suges det normalt inn omtrent 100-150 ganger mer luft fra omgivelsene enn gassvolumet som produseres av cellen. Den foreliggende oppfinnelsen dreier seg om prinsippene om hvordan man kan utforme en innretning der man kan kombinere tilførsel av råstoffet alumina til cellen og samtidig trekke ut mer C02-konsentrerte avgasser fra cellen enn det som er standard fremgangsmåte i aluminiumsindustrien i dag. De tre totalvirkningene man får med hensyn til avgassene er. 1. Det tas ut et mindre totalvolum av gass fra cellen, med mulighet for å redusere den totale størrelsen på gassvaskerne. 2. Som følge av punkt l vil den oppsamlede prosessgassen få høyere temperatur enn før og er derfor mer egnet for varmeutvinning. 3. Hvis det suges inn mindre «falsk luft» til gassoppsamlingskamrene, øker konsentrasjonen av C02 i avgassene vesentlig, slik at det blir mulig å oppfange og skille ut C02 med standard teknologi som brukes til å fange opp C02 fra prosesser så som kraftanlegg.
