Abstract

En fremgangsmåte hvor en sur naturgasstrøm kan behandles for å fremstille formaldehyd fra metan og metylmerkaptaner (primært metantiol (CH3SH) og en liten mengde av dimetylsulfid (CH3SCH3)) fra hydrogensulfid, og metylmerkaptanene fortrinnsvis fores i kontakt med en katalysator omfattende et båret metalloksid eller et bulkmetalloksid i nærværet av et oksidasjonsmiddel og for en tid tilstrekkelig til å.._ omdanne minst en del av metylmerkaptanej" til .....__ formaldehyd (CH2O), og svoveldioksid (SO2).
