The invention relates to a chimney comprising a central body axis and a chimney body surrounding the central body axis to form a shaft. Said chimney is in use often placed on a roof of a building.
5 A large percentage of the population is of the opinion that for esthetic reasons it is preferred that no external unit of an air conditioning system is placed on a roof of a building. Therefore, many persons are not allowed or do not wish to install an air conditioning system (any other type of fluid conditioning system) which requires the installation of an external unit on the roof.
10 The chimney according the invention solves above mentioned problem. The chimney according the invention comprises a central body axis, a chimney body surrounding the central body axis to form a shaft. An external unit of a fluid conditioning system, such as an air conditioning system, is provided in the shaft and the chimney body comprises a body opening to form an air outlet for the external unit. Due to the chimney according the 15 invention, the external unit is placed “out of sight”.
In an embodiment of the chimney according the invention, the body opening is directed towards the central body axis. The body opening comprises a central opening axis and the central opening axis may extend traverse to the central body axis. The body opening may be configured to in us allow an air stream produced by the external unit to flow out of the shaft. 20 In an embodiment of the chimney according the invention, the chimney body comprises an underside which in use is at least partly received by a sloping roof comprising an upper roof surface and the chimney body is configured such that the body opening is in use located substantially above the upper roof surface. The chimney body may be configured such that the body opening is in use directed towards the upper roof surface.
25 A water shield may be provided at the body opening to in use prevent the passage of water into the shaft via the body opening.
In an embodiment of the chimney according the invention, the chimney body forms a lower shaft opening and the chimney comprises a lifting device to lift the external unit into the shaft via the lower shaft opening and to lower the external unit out of the shaft via the 30 lower shaft opening. The chimney body may form a upper shaft opening and the chimney may comprise a lifting device to lift the external unit out the shaft via the upper shaft opening and to lower the external unit into the shaft via the upper shaft opening.

The lifting device may be configured to position the external unit inside the shaft in a use position wherein the produced air stream of the external unit is directed towards the body opening. The lifting device may be attached to the chimney body to provide support to the lifting device.
5 The chimney may comprise a gas duct for transporting a gas thought the shaft and the gas duct may be configured to prevent that in use the gas comes in contact with the external unit when the gas passes the external unit.
In an embodiment of the chimney according the invention, the external unit comprises an elongate interconnector for operatively connecting the external unit to an internal unit of the 10 fluid conditioning system, which interconnector is connected to the external unit and extends through at least part of the shaft.
In an embodiment of the chimney according the invention, the chimney body comprises an underside and the underside in use is supported by the roof comprising a roof opening surrounded by the underside of the chimney body. The roof opening and the lifting device 15 may be configured to move the external unit in and out of the shaft via the roof opening. The gas duct may in use extend through the roof opening. The interconnector may in use extend through the roof opening.
In an embodiment of the chimney according the invention, - the chimney comprises a closure device for a roof opening in a sloping roof comprising an 20 upper roof surface, which closure device comprises a water tight base, - the water tight base comprises a base circumference and an upper side, - the chimney body comprises an underside which in use is supported by the base, - the closure device comprises a watertight wall which extends upwardly from the upper side of the base, is connected to the base in a watertight manner and extends along part of the 25 base circumference to define a water outlet for the drainage of water, - the closure device is configured to be positioned in the roof opening such that in use the base and the wall are substantially located under the upper roof surface and the upper side of the base extends substantially horizontal or under a small angle in relation to the horizontal to guide water out of the water outlet.
30 The base may comprise a base opening surrounded by the underside of the chimney body. The base opening and the lifting device may be configured to move the external unit in and out of the shaft via the base opening. The gas duct may extend through the base opening. The interconnector may extend through the base opening.
The invention further relates to a use of a chimney according to the invention. The 35 invention further relates to a lifting device according to the invention. The invention further relates to a method for providing a chimney according to the invention.

The figures 1 and 2 show a first embodiment of a chimney according the invention. The chimney 1 comprises a central body axis 2 which is surrounded by a chimney body 3 to form a shaft 4. An external unit 6 (heat exchanger) of an air conditioning system 5 is 15 provided in the shaft 4. It will be clear any other type of external unit 6 of a fluid conditioning system may be provided in the shaft 4.
The chimney body 3 comprises a body opening 9 to form an air outlet 10 for the external unit 6. The body opening 9 is directed towards the central body axis 2. More specifically the body opening 9 is facing the central body axis 2.
20 The body opening 9 comprises a central opening axis 11 which extend traverse to the central body axis 2. More specifically the central opening axis 11 extends substantially perpendicular to the central body axis 2.
The body opening 9 is configured to in use allow an air stream 12 produced by the external unit 6 to flow out of the shaft 4. The air stream 12 flows in a direction traverse to the 25 central body axis 2. More specifically the air stream 12 flows in a direction substantially perpendicular to the central body axis 2.
The external unit 6 is connected to the chimney 1 by unit holders 38. The unit holders 38 attach the external unit 6 to the chimney body 3. The unit holders 38 attach the external unit 6 to the inner body wall 8 of the chimney body 3. This way the external unit 6 is 30 supported by the chimney body 3. The chimney body 3 is made from a stone type material, but may also be made from another suitable material, like metal.
The chimney 1 comprises a gas duct 22 for transporting a gas, such as a combustion gas, through the shaft 4. The gas duct 22 is configured to prevent that in use the gas comes in contact with the external unit 6 when the gas passes the external unit 6. The gas duct 22 35 is made from gas tight material and extends through the shaft 4. The chimney 1 comprises a lower shaft opening 18 and the gas duct 22 extends through the lower shaft 4 opening.

The external unit 6 comprises an elongate interconnector 23 for operatively connecting the external unit 6 to an internal unit 7 (not shown) of the air-conditioning system 5. The interconnector 23 is connected to the external unit 6 and extends through the shaft 4. The interconnector 23 extends through the lower shaft 4 opening.
5 The chimney body 3 comprises an underside 13 which is supported by a roof 14 comprising a roof opening 16. The roof opening 16 is surrounded by the underside 13 of the chimney body 3. The lower shaft opening 18 and the roof opening 16 are substantially in line with each other. The gas duct 22 and the interconnector 23 extend through the roof opening 16. The chimney body 3 is positioned on the upper roof surface 15 of the roof 14.
10 Figure 3 shows a second embodiment of a chimney 1 according the invention. The chimney 1 comprises a lifting device 20 to lift the external unit 6 into the shaft 4 via the lower shaft opening 18 and to lower the external device 6 out of the shaft 4 via the lower shaft opening 18.
The lifting device 20 is configured to position the external unit 6 inside the shaft 4 in a 15 use position 21 wherein the produced air stream 12 is directed towards the body opening 9. The air stream 12 leaves the shaft 4 via the body opening 9. In the use position 21 the external unit 6 may be located in front of the opening 9, as shown in fig. 3.
The lifting device 20 is configured to position the external unit 6 outside the shaft 4 in an access position 39. When the external unit 6 is placed outside the shaft 4 and in the 20 access position 39, the external unit 6 can easily be reached by a user for maintenance activities. The external unit 6 is installed on the lifting device 20 in the access position 39.
The lifting device 20 is attached to the chimney body 3 by lift holders 43. The lifting device 20 is supported by the chimney body 3 via the lift holders 43. The lifting device 20 comprises a lift guide 35 which is connected to the inner body wall 8 by the lift holders 43.
25 The lift guide 35 comprises a rail 37. The external unit 6 is moveably connected to the lift guide 35 by movable unit holders 38. The unit holders 38 may be moved along the lift guide 35 by a lift driver 36 as indicated by the movement arrow 34. The lift drive 36 is configured to travel along the lift guide 35. The movement of the lift drive 36 (and therefore of the external unit 6) is controlled by a lift control 44 which communicates with the lift driver 36 via a 30 wireless communication connection.
The roof opening 16 and the lifting device 20 are configured to move the external unit 6 in and out of the shaft 4 via the roof opening 16. More specifically the lifting device 20 is configured to move the external unit 6 in and out of the shaft 4 via the lower shaft opening 18 and the roof opening 16.
35 The figures 4-10 show a third embodiment of a chimney according the invention. In figure 4 a closure device 24 is shown. The closure device 24 is configured for a roof opening 16 in a sloping roof 14. The sloping roof 14 comprises an upper roof surface 15. The upper -5- roof surface 15 is defined by the roof tiles 31. The closure device 24 comprises a water tight base 25. The water tight base 25 comprises a base circumference 26 and an upper side 27. The closure device 24 comprises a water tight wall 28 which extends upwardly from the upper side 27 of the base 25, is connected to the base 25 in a water tight manner and 5 extends along part of the base circumference 26 to define a water outlet for the drainage of water. As shown in figure 5, the closure device 24 is configured to be positioned in the roof opening 16 such that in use the base 25 and the wall 28 are substantially located under the upper roof surface 15. The upper side 17 of the base 25 extends substantially horizontal or under a small angle in relation to the horizontal to guide water out of water outlet (see fig.
10 10A-B).
In figure 5 the chimney body 3 is shown by discontinues lines. The underside 13 of the chimney body 3 is supported by the base 25. More specifically the underside 13 of the chimney body 3 is positioned on the base 25. As shown in figure 5, the underside 13 of the chimney body 3 may be supported by the base 25 via one or more support members 45, 15 such that the underside 13 is located at the distance from the upper side 27 of the base 25. This facilitates the flowing of water out of the water outlet 29.
The base 25 comprises a base opening 32 which is surrounded by the underside 13 of the chimney body 3. An inner watertight wall 46 extends upwardly from the upper side 27 of the base 25, is connected to the base 25 in a water tight manner and fully surrounds the 20 base opening 32. The inner watertight wall prevents that water located on the upper side 27 of the base 25 flows into the base opening 32.
The lower shaft opening 18 and the base opening 32 are positioned substantially in line with each other. The gas duct 22 and the interconnector 23 (both not shown) extend through the base opening 32.
25 The chimney 1 comprises a lifting device 20 which corresponds to the one shown in fig. 3. The lifting device 20 is configured to position the external unit 6 inside the shaft 4 in a use position 21 wherein the produced air stream 12 is directed towards the body opening 9. The lifting device 20 is configured to position the external unit 6 outside the shaft 4 in an access position 39. The base opening 32 and the lifting device 20 are configured to move 30 the external unit 6 in and out of the shaft 4 via the base opening 32.
As shown in the fig. 6-9, the underside 13 of the chimney 1 is received by the sloping roof 14. More specifically, the underside 13 of the chimney body 3 is located below the upper roof surface 15. The body opening 9 is located above the upper roof surface 15. The chimney body 3 is configured such that the body opening 9 is directed towards the upper 35 roof surface 15. More specifically, the central opening axis 11 extends through the upper roof 14 surface. A water shield 17 may be provided at the body opening 9 to prevent the -6- passage into the shaft 4 via the body opening 9 (fig. 7 and 8). The closure device 24 is supported by a support 40 located on the floor 47.
The figures 10A-B show the closure device of the chimney of fig. 4-9. The horizontal 30 is indicated in the fig. 10A-B. In fig. 10A the upper side 17 of the base 25 extends 5 substantially horizontal to guide water out of water outlet 29. In fig. 10B the upper side 17 of the base 25 extends a small angle a in relation to the horizontal 30 to guide water out of water outlet 29. The angle a may be between larger than 0°and smaller than 15°. The angle a may be between larger than 0° and smaller than 10°. The angle a may be between larger than 0°and smaller than 5°.
10 It will be clear that many modifications of the chimney 1, closure device 24, lifting device 20 and method according to the invention are possible without departing from the scope of protection as disclosed in this document.
