Description
Drop shot hook
The invention relates to a drop shot hook designed to have a bait stand out from a line to which the hook is connect-5 able, comprising a line guiding means, a shank portion which in use extends away from the line, and a hook-part which is provided on the shank portion at a side distant from the line guiding means .
Such a drop shot hook is known from every day practice. 10 There are a number of problems associated with the known drop shot hook, notably: -tying the hook to a monofilament or another type of line such as a fluorocarbon line weakens the line -tying the hook to a metal line is virtually impossible 15 because of the line getting wrinkled, -repositioning the drop shot hook on the line after having it tied earlier at another position wastes the line, -tying the drop shot hook to the line in order to secure a 90° angle with respect to the line is cumbersome because 20 of the special knot that is required. Despite this knot even then in practice the hook will not at all times remain at the intended 90° angle.
It is an object of the invention to alleviate at least one or more of said problems.
25 The drop shot hook of the invention is to that end characterized by one or more of the appended claims.
In a first aspect of the invention the drop shot hook is characterized in that the line guiding means comprises a shaft or shafts extending at right angles from the shank portion 30 in a manner that in use the shaft or shafts are parallel with the line and extend both above and below the shank portion that is at a substantially right angle extending away from the line. This measure secures that at all times the drop shot hook of the invention can maintain its right angle with respect to the 35 line to which it is attached.
It is then even possible that the drop shot hook of the invention is provided with a longer shank portion than the drop shot hook of the prior art. Consequently also larger artificial and natural bait can be provided on the drop shot hook of the 40 invention.
2
It is preferred that in its mounted position attached to the line, the shaft extending below the shank portion is provided with a clamp for maintaining the line in a fixed position relative to said shaft. Consequently no knots are required to 5 fix the hook to any monofilament, multifilament, fluorocarbon or metal line. Also fishing at other types of fish becomes then possible, such as big teeth fish like Pike. Another advantage that comes within reach due to the absence of any necessity to fix the hook with a knot to the line, is that this allows for 10 easy changing of the hook or for easy repositioning of the hook which may be desirable depending on the prevailing water conditions, such as the depth where the fishing expedition is carried out.
Still another advantage is that the drop shot hook of 15 the invention can in a natural manner rotate over 360° around the line, providing a more natural bait presentation.
A preferable and cost-effective solution for providing the clamp is to embody same as a rubber hose tightly fitting around the shaft or a part thereof.
20 The invention will hereinafter be further elucidated with reference to the drawing showing in a single figure the drop shot hook of the invention in combination with the line to which it is to be attached.
In this figure the drop shot hook of the invention is 25 shown as indicated with reference 1.
The figure shows that the drop shot hook 1 stands out from a line 2 to which it is to be connected. It is further shown that the hook 1 is provided with line guiding means in the form of shafts 3 and 4. Further there is a shank portion 5 which 30 in use extends away from the line 2, which shank portion 5 is provided with a hook part 6 on a side distant from the line guiding means or shafts 3,4.
As mentioned the line guiding means 3,4 comprising said shaft or shafts 3,4 extend at right angles from the shank por-35 tion 5 in a manner that in use this shaft or shafts 3,4 are parallel with the line 2, and extend both above (shaft 3), and below (shaft 4) the shank portion 5. At that time the shank portion 5 is at a substantially right angle extending away from the line 2.
40 The figure further shows a clamp 7 that is to be pro vided on the shaft 4 extending below the shank portion 5 for 3 maintaining the line in a fixed position relative to said shaft 4. An easy way of embodying said clamp is to provide it as a rubber hose 7 that can tightly fit around the shaft 4 or on a part thereof.
