Abstract
1291460 Fungicides containing anions derived from N-nitroso-N-cyclohexylhydroxylamine BADISCHE ANILIN-& SODA-FABRIK AG 30 Dec 1969 [31 Dec 1968] 63216/69 Heading A5E [Also in Division C3] A fungicide for protecting wood comprises an aqueous alkaline solution, preferably of pH from 9 to 12, containing organic anions derived from N-nitroso-N-cyclohexylhydroxylamine and hydroxoanions (i.e. the anions of the salts of amphoteric hydroxides with sodium or potassium hydroxide), and may be obtained (i) by dissolving in water an alkali metal hydroxide, a compound of a metal in a valency state giving rise to an amphoteric metal hydroxide (e.g. Al 2 (SO 4 ) 3 , ZnCl 2 , SnCl 2 , Pb (CH 3 COO) 2 ) and N-nitroso-N-cyclohexylhydroxylamine or an alkali metal or ammonium salt thereof; or (ii) by adding N-nitroso-N- cyclohexylhydroxyamine or an alkali metal or ammonium salt thereof to a solution containing alkali metal ions and hydroxo anions. Preferably the amphoteric metal hydroxide is a hydroxide of divalent lead, tin or zinc or of trivalent chromium or aluminium. The fungicide finds application in the manufacture of chipboard and in use forms a relatively insoluble product by reaction of the amphoteric hydroxide and the N-nitroso-N-cyclohexylhydroxylamine. After-treatment of wood with an acid (sulphuric, acetic or an acid-reacting salt such as ammonium chloride) aids in the fermation of the insoluble product.
