Description

-1-
Stepless transmission ,The object of this invention is to overcome the problems with transmissions. Other stepless transmission are usually belt driven which causes energy loss. This invention has overcome all known problems and is yet very simple.
5 Fig. 1 shows two axles with a cone shaped part which are placed in opposite directions. If the cones have the same shape and angle then the axles should preferably be parralel The two axles with the cones are placed in regular ball bearings to keep everything on its desired place.
10 The two axles should be placed in such way that a ball is placed in between in such a way that the midpoint of the ball is slightly higher placed then the midpoint of the axles, When one axle and cone are turned the ball will roll and turn the second cone with axle. Depending on where the ball 15 is located will decide the transmission ratio.
1 shows the axle. 2 shows the cone. 3 shows ball bearing.
4 shows the ball. 5 shows tip of the cone.
Fig.2 shows a vieuw in the direction of the axles. Here one can see that the ball is slightly higher then the axles.
20 It is noted that in order to work properly the axles can only turn one direction. In the drawing the top turns left.
In fact this principle is the beaüty gfthis invention. When more force is used or a heavy load needs tó be driven then the ball gets pressed harder in between the two cones which 25 prevent slipage. This slipage is exactly the problem that belt driven stepless transmissions have.
Fig. 4 shows a sort of claw to keep the ball in its place.
A mechanism can be attached to this claw in order to set the desired transmission ‘ratio. 8 shows yet another axle or 30 rod which purpose is to hold the clamp nr. 9 in it’fs correct and desired position. 14 shows a part that fits nr 8. Fig 3 shows a top vieuw similar as fig. 1. In this drawing is a variation on the invention shown. The ball is replaced by a part that could be a ball but could be a wheel shaped 35 part. Whether a ball or wheel is used the parts midpoint rolls over an axle 7 . A clamp such as in fig 4 can be used 1037536 5 -2- to hold the ball or wheel on its desired place.
Fig. 5 shows another version of the invention. This version could be preferred when high torgue is required.
The ball or wheel is replaced by see 6 a ball or wheel with 5 small spring loaded pins mounted in them. The cones are equiped with small holes to adapt to the pins from ball.
Fig. 6 shows a close up of the circumvent of ball or wheel with a shaft 13 and a spring 12 and a pin 11.
Fig. 7 shows the cone with small holes 10 in them.
10 Beauty of this version is that one can shift from low to higher gear easily without slipage. The pin does not have to fall in a counter hole necessarily. The principle would work as described in the first invention. Only when sudden high torgue is required the slipage could occur till the 15 pin meets a hóle.
All parts are preferably made from a hard material such as steel. Alternativly a softer material could be choosen for the ball, the wheel or the cones such as rubber.
