Abstract

Provided are: a device for measuring the thickness of a deposit (2) within a pipe (1) used in a plant or the like; and a method for such measurement. The device for measuring the thickness of a deposit (2) using ultrasonic waves (10) comprises: an ultrasonic wave transmitting element disposed on one side of a pipe (1); an ultrasonic wave receiving element (4, 4a, 4b, 4c, 4d, 4e) disposed facing the transmitting element, with the pipe (1) therebetween; an ultrasonic wave transceiver (5) that drives the ultrasonic wave transmitting element (3, 3a, 3b, 3c, 3d, 3e) and that receives a signal from the ultrasonic wave receiving element (4, 4a, 4b, 4c, 4d, 4e); a propagation time measurement unit (7a) that measures the propagation time of an ultrasonic wave (10) that has propagated through a medium within the pipe (1); and a deposit thickness calculation unit that calculates the thickness of a deposit (2) within the pipe (1) from the propagation time using the outer diameter of the medium and sound speed data.
