Abstract
A HYPEREUTECTIC AL-SI ALLOY CONTAINING 14.0-18.0 MASS % SI, 0.001-0.02 MASS % P, AND 2.0-5.0 MASS % CU IS MELTED, RECEIVED IN AN HOLDING FURNACE, HELD AT A TEMPERATURE IN A ZONE FROM (23XSI%+357)°C TO (23XSI%+387)°C, POURED FROM THE HOLDING FURNACE INTO A CASTING MOLD, AND THEN COOLED AT AN AVERAGED COOLING SPEED OF 2-1000°C/SECOND IN A ZONE FROM (23XSI%+357)°C TO A LIQUIDUS TEMPERATURE. THE CAST ARTICLE HAS PRIMARY SI CONTROLLED TO 7.30µm IN PARTICLE SIZE EFFECTIVE FOR IMPROVEMENT OF WEAR-RESISTANCE AND MACHINABILITY. THE HYPER-EUTECTIC AL-SI ALLOY MAY FURTHER CONTAIN AT LEAST ONE OF MG, FE, CA, MN, CR, TI AND B OTHER THAN SI, P AND CU.
