Abstract

THE OBJECT OF THE PRESENT INVENTION IS TO PROVIDE AN INFLATOR MODULE (10) FOR A SIDE AIRBAG (3) WHICH CAN BE TRANSPORTED SAFELY. IN ORDER TO ACHIEVE THIS OBJECT, IN AN INFLATOR MODULE FOR A SIDE AIRBAG, IN WHICH GAS SUPPLY HOLES (14) ARE FORMED IN THE CIRCUMFERENTIAL WALL OF A GUIDE PIPE (12) AND OUTLET GAS FROM AN INFLATOR (11) IS GUIDED INTO A SIDE AIRBAG VIA THE GAS SUPPLY HOLES, GAS EXIT HOLES (15) HAVING SUBSTANTIALLY THE SAME CROSS-SECTIONAL AREA AS THE GAS SUPPLY HOLES ARE FORMED IN THE CIRCUMFERENTIAL WALL OF THE GUIDE PIPE IN POSITIONS OPPOSING THE GAS SUPPLY HOLES AND THE GAS EXIT HOLES ARE SEALED OFF BY A SEALING BODY (16) WHICH MELTS AT A PRESCRIBED TEMPERATURE.
