Abstract

THE INVENTION CONCERNS THERMOSETTING POWDER COATING SYSTEMS BASED ON CARBOXYL-FUNCTIONAL POLYESTER RESINS, -HYDROXYALKYLAMIDES AND/OR POLYEPOXIDES, AS WELL AS, WHERE APPLICABLE. CUSTOMARY PIGMENTS, FILLERS AND ADDITIVES, PRODUCTION AND USE OF THE SAME, PROTECTIVE COATINGS PRODUCED FROM THE SAME AS WELL AS ITEMS AN OBJECTS TO WHICH SUCH PROTECTIVE COATING ARE APPLIED. THE INVENTION ALSO CONCERNS POLYESTER RESINS SUITABLE FOR FORMULATING THERMOSETTING POWER COATING SYSTEMS. THE POLYESTER RESINS DISPLAY AN ACID NUMBER OF BETWEEN 15 AND 70 KOH/G, A MAXIMUM HYDROXYL NUMBER OF 10 MG KOH/G AND A GLASS TRANSITION TEMPERATURE OF AT LEAST 35OC. THESE POLYESTER RESINS CONTAIN, RELATED TO THE TOTAL QUANTITY OF ALL THE DICARBOXYLIC ACIDS USED, UP TO 80 MOL % ISOPHTHALIC ACID AND, RELATED TO THE TOTAL QUANTITY OF ALL THE DIOLS USED, 0.5 TO 30 MOL % PENTANEDIOL 1,5 AND/OR A MINIMUM OF ONE PENTANEDIOL L,5 WITH AT LEAST ON ALKYL SUBSTITUENT AND/OR AT LEAST ONE 3- OXA DERIVATIVE OF THE DIOLS REFERRED TO ABOVE.
