Abstract

A PRECAST RETAINING WALL IS FORMED FROM ONE OR MORE PRECAST WALL PANELS (20), EACH HAVING A PLURALITY OF LONGITUDINALLY EXTENDING HOLLOW CORES OR VOIDS (26). THE WALL PANELS (20) ARE MOUNTED ON A WALL FOOTING (22) WHICH HAS A PLURALITY OF UPWARDLY EXTENDING REINFORCEMENT MEMBERS (10) WHICH ARE RECEIVED IN THE HOLLOW CORES OR VOIDS (26), AND GROUTING (28) IS APPLIED INTO THE HOLLOW CORES OR VOIDS TO SECURE THE WALL PANELS (20) TO THE FOOTING (22). UPPER WALL PANELS (20) MAY BE JOINED TO LOWER WALL PANELS (20) BELOW BY FURTHER REINFORCEMENT MEMBERS (40) RECEIVED IN THE HOLLOW CORES OR VOIDS (26) AND GROUTING APPLIED IN THE HOLLOW CORES OR VOIDS (26) AROUND THE REINFORCEMENT MEMBERS (40). WALL PANELS (20) MAY BE JOINED SIDE-BY-SIDE BY LONGITUDINAL WALL JOINTS FORMED EITHER BY INTERLOCKING PARTS (32, 33) ON ADJACENT SIDE EDGES OF THE WALL PANELS (20) OR BY GROUTED SHEER KEY JOINTS (34). A RANGE OF RETAINING WALLS MAY BE PROVIDED FROM CANTILEVER-TYPE RETAINING WALLS TO TIE-BACK RETAINING WALLS WITH MULTIPLE ANCHORS (80) CONNECTED TO THE WALL PANELS (20) BY TIE MEMBERS (70). IN A PREFERRED METHOD OF FORMING A TIE-BACK RETAINING WALL, BACKFILL (90) IS SPREAD AND COMPACTED AGAINST THE WALL PANEL IN LAYERS OF ABOUT 300MM. (FIG 1B)
