Abstract
Una esfera de reloj usa pantallas de cristal liquido, junto con un polarizador reflector, para producir fondos con apariencias selectivas. El reloj emplea un polarizador para producir luz polarizada que se hace pasar hacia abajo y hacia una pantalla de cristal liquido. La pantalla de cristal liquido gira o no, selectivamente, la luz polarizada. Si la luz gira, una capa polarizante reflectora, localizada por debajo de la pantalla de cristal liquido, refleja la luz girada de regreso hacia arriba de su superficie, para proporcionar a la esfera del reloj un primer color. Si la luz no gira, entonces la luz se transmite a traves de la capa polarizante reflectora, hacia una superficie reflectora de la esfera, colocada por debajo. La luz se refleja despues en la superficie de la esfera, para proporcionar a la esfera del reloj un segundo color. La presente invencion incluye un reloj que emplea una esfera de reloj con fondos que cambian selectivamente, la cual es capaz de exhibir dos o mas colores, a la vez que se tiene una esfera de reloj que tiene un espesor total reducido y a la cual puede hacerse que exhiba patrones y efectos opticos unicos.
