Abstract
Se proporciona un método para recuperar níquel de minerales lateríticos que contienen altas cantidades de magnesio los cuales también contienen hierro. Los minerales los cuales son referidos como minerales saprolíticos son sometidos a lixiviacion (2) con un ácido mineral del grupo que consiste de HCl, H2SO4 y HNO3, el HCl que es preferido. Después del lixiviacion con HCl, por ejemplo, la solucion madre sostenida es separada de solidos no disueltos y se recupera el níquel preferiblemente poniendo en contacto la solucion con una resina (4) selectiva para absorcion de níquel. El refinado que queda el cual contiene cloruros de hierro y magnesio puede ser sometido a pirohidrolisis (10A) para producir sus respectivos oxidos y HCl libre para recircular al sistema de lixiviacion. El níquel es extraído de la resina usando una solucion de eliminacion del ácido, y el níquel es posteriormente extraído de la solucion de eliminacion cargada con níquel.
