Abstract

Una batería ensamblada en la forma de un panel estructural ligero y que incluye celdas de baterías aisladas. Cada una de las celdas incluye una estructura de panal [44] en la cual cada capa en forma de película en la estructra de panel es un apilamiento de electrodos. Cada uno de los apilamientos de electrodos [20] incluye un cátodo alargado, un separador alargado y un ánodo alargado. El separado se humedece con una solucion electrolítica para facilitar la reaccion electroquímica. La reaccion electroquímica puede ser la de una batería NiMH2 y una batería de NiH, una batería de Li+, una batería de NiCd, una batería plomo-ácido o cualquier otra reaccion electroquímica adecuada. Alternativamente la celda de batería podría estar compuesta de un cátodo en forma de espuma, un separador en forma de espuma y un ánodo en forma de espuma. Con cualquiera de esas realizaciones la invencion logra el almacenamiento de energía electroquímica en una estructura con una multitud de huecos [45] definidos en ella de tal forma que la estructura es relativamente rígida pero ligera.
