Abstract
Un horno de arco sumergido (10) produce hierro para moldería y fuentes de hierro viejo y chatarra de acero donde no se produce escoria o muy poca. El hierro viejo o la chatarra de acero se suministra al horno de arco sumergido (10) con una fuente de sílice y con un agente reductor carbonoso. El hierro viejo y la chatarra de acero se derriten mientras que al mismo tiempo se funde la sílice en la presencia del agente reductor carbonoso. La cantidad de la fuente de sílice y el agente reductor carbonáceo se agregan en una cantidad apta para controlar selectivamente el contenido de silicio y carbono del hierro para moldería resultante.
