Abstract

A method of catalytic partial oxidation of hydrocarbons, particularly methane and/or natural gas to form a product containing hydrogen and carbon monoxide where the first catalyst comprises the Co-Ni-Cr-W alloy. With the present invention it is possible to: a) eliminate the sintering of the catalyst to prolong its useful life, (b) reduce the temperature increase in the front part of the reactor system to reduce the initial complete oxidation of the hydrocarbon feed, and / or c) maintaining as high a temperature as possible in the rest of the reactor system in order to maintain a reasonable reaction rate for the reforming reactions to convert the undesired complete oxidation products; water and CO2, into additional synthesis gas (i.e. a mixture of hydrogen and CO), which is expected to increasingly become the preferred starting material for energy production and/or feedstock for industrial chemical processes.
