Abstract
Se describe un método para reducir y prevenir las emisiones de mercurio al medio ambiente a partir de combustibles fósiles quemados o de gases que tienen mercurio con el uso de hipoyodito. El hipoyodito se utiliza para la captura de mercurio de los gases de combustión resultantes utilizando un sistema de desulfuración de gases de combustión o un depurador. El método utiliza hipoyodito junto con un depurador para capturar el mercurio y disminuir su emisión y/o reemisión con gases de chimenea. El método permite el uso del carbón como fuente de combustible más limpia y más respetuosa con el medio ambiente, así como la captura de mercurio de otros sistemas de procesamiento.
