Abstract

Se da a conocer una fibra birregional con un núcleo celulósico y una vaina externa de cera. La vaina puede comprender cera de alta temperatura de punto de fusión. La fibra se puede producir por medio del procesamiento de la fibra natural a temperaturas menores de 70°C. La fibra se puede procesar de una manera estándar, tal como, por ejemplo, un proceso de Kier, el cual puede incluir un blanqueado a aproximadamente 100°C con una cera que se añade posteriormente a una temperatura suficiente para dispersar la cera sobre la superficie de la fibra. Las fibras son resistentes a la ignición como se mide por medio de las pruebas estándares de la industria. La cera puede comprender de aproximadamente el 0.4 al 25 por ciento o mayor de la fibra en peso. La cera puede ser una cera natural, una cera sintótica, o una cera emulsionada, o mezclas de las mismas. Las fibras birregionales se pueden mezclar con otras fibras, incluyendo las fibras carbonáceas birregionales (BRCF) para crear telas resistentes al fuego, incluyendo ropa, mantas y materiales de uso domóstico.
