Abstract

En la presente hay métodos para aumentar la concentración del factor de crecimiento insulínico (IGF) en el suero de un sujeto. En una modalidad, el método incluye administrar IGF-1 activo a un sujeto, donde aumenta la concentración de IGF en el suero del sujeto. También se proporcionan métodos para tratar una afección en un sujeto, métodos para mejorar o mantener la salud de un sujeto y métodos para mejorar una característica de un sujeto. Los ejemplos de afecciones incluyen un trastorno de la neurona motora, enfermedad de Alzheimer, infarto de miocardio, lesión cerebral hipóxica-isquémica, osteoporosis, reparación del músculo esquelético e insuficiencia de crecimiento. Los ejemplos de características incluyen aumento de la producción de leche, aumento de la fertilización, aumento de la reproducción, aumento del crecimiento, aumento de la calidad de oocitos en un rumiante sometido a la superovulación y aumento de viabilidad del embrión. En una modalidad, el IGF-1 administrado al sujeto se obtiene de una fuente natural que se ha procesado para aumentar la cantidad de IGF-1 activo.
