Abstract

The invention concerns a method for treating a predominantly radially oriented side face (15) of a metal ring (14) by temporarily melting a lateral edge part of the ring (14), at least including a part of the side face (15), until the entire circumference of the ring (14) has been progressively melted and allowed to solidify again, wherein either the said part of the side face (15) is cleaned prior to the melting of the lateral edge part of the ring (14), or the said lateral edge part of the ring (14) is annealed after the melting thereof.
