Abstract

La presente invención proporciona un proceso para obtener un recubrimiento no tóxico adecuado para prevenir la unión de organismos de ensuciamiento sobre estructuras marinas que involucra aplicar sobre un sustrato una composición de recubrimiento y curar la composición de recubrimiento para producir un recubrimiento hidrofílico insoluble en agua en donde la composición de recubrimiento incluye por lo menos un éster de celulosa y por lo menos un solvente orgánico que posee una proporción de evaporación suficientemente lenta con el fin de producir un recubrimiento que es sustancialmente liso y no poroso. La invención también pertenece a la reacción de los ésteres de celulosa en las composiciones de recubrimiento con agentes de reticulación para proporcionar dureza mejorada para recubrimientos sobre sustratos que son sumergidos en agua. La invención también se relaciona a la aplicación de la composición de recubrimiento a un sustrato que es sometido a un medio ambiente marino. En un aspecto adicional, la composición de recubrimiento se aplica como una capa clara a un sustrato previamente recubierto.
